Route

Route in brief: Start at the Rocky Ridge Visitor Center along the west side of Del Valle Lake. Then follow West Shore Trail till you reach the bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn left along an unnamed trail. Follow signs for East Shore Trail, next to the lake. Beyond Venados Group Camp area, follow Swallow Bay Trail. Continue along Cliffs to Del Valle Regional Trail — this trail is labeled 'East Shore Trail' on the trail map but the name on signposts all along is 'Cliffs to Del Valle Regional Trail'. It is a wide fire road that takes you along rolling hills, away from the lake, all the way to "Arroyo Del Valle Staging Area" in the north. There is another trail called Heron Bay Trail. It's a single-track hiking trail that runs parallel to 'Cliffs to Del Valle Regional Trail'. You may prefer this trail if trails are not too muddy. Finally, you may also hike next to the lake itself for long stretches. You are likely to find many people fishing.
