Route in brief: West Shore Trail (1.82 miles) → Bass Cove Trail (1.33 + 0.46 miles) → Columbine Trail (0.95 + 1.20 miles) → Honker Bay Trail (1.00 + 0.43 miles) → Live Oak Trail (0.11 + 0.11 miles) → East Shore Trail (1.65 miles).
Notes: West Shore Trail and East Shore Trail are paved. Columbine Trail is through a forest and shaded throughout. The loop does not follow the shoreline at all times.
Location: 17600 Lake Chabot Rd, Castro Valley, California . Parking area is visible in Google Maps if you zoom in sufficiently.
Directions: From I-880 North, take exit 30 for Hesperian Blvd, turn right onto Hesperian Blvd and drive 1.1 miles. Turn right onto Fairmont Drive and drive for 2.4 miles. Continue onto Lake Chabot Road. Within 0.1 miles, the entrance to Lake Chabot is to the left. Plenty of free parking is available on both sides of Lake Chabot Road. Paid parking inside the park.
