Route

Permit: Make sure you have the permit to use Ohlone Wilderness Trail. Permits are available at entrance kiosk and online.

Route in brief: Start from the parking lot near Ardilla Group Camp and West Swim Beach. Follow Sailor Camp Trail for about one mile. Then follow Ohlone Wilderness Trail all the way to Rose Peak which offers excellent 360-degree views. The first 5.5 miles are very steep.

Murietta Falls: Murietta Falls is a seasonal waterfall that has plenty of water after recent rains. Visiting the falls requires a detour. You have to turn right at a signpost numbered "35" — Murietta Falls is clearly marked at this signpost. See trail map for details. After Murietta Falls, take Greenside Road8 to rejoin Ohlone Wilderness Trail. This detour adds about 1 mile to the hike.
