Hikes in Foothills Park
1 Jan 2012
A beautiful park that is limited to Palo Alto residents. Los Trancos Trail is shaded and crosses creeks more than twenty times, making it a great hike in winters and spring, after rains.

Residents of Palo Alto: (Check the Park Website for latest information) In Feb 2010, the guidelines were: "Foothills Park is open to Palo Alto residents and their guests only. Proof of residency is required. Guests must be accompanied through the entrance by a Palo Alto resident. Limit of 15 guests in two cars per resident. Names of guests cannot be left at the gate. Groups of 25 or more must make a reservation.".

Non-residents: Foothills Park can be accessed by non-residents through two other parks:

* via Arastradero Preserve (Website - Trail MapYelp Reviews). From the parking lot at Arastradero Preserve, walk up to Gate D for 'Bay-to-Ridge Trail access through Foothill Park' (drawn at the bottom of the trail map for Arastradero). At the top of the map for Foothills Park, this connects to Coyote Trail. This map shows both Arastradero and Foothills Park clearly. Detailed description of an INCH Hike through both parks.

via Los Trancos Open Space Preserve (WebsiteTrail Map). You may follow Page Mill Trail for 2.6 miles until it hits Los Trancos Trail. Or you may follow Franciscan Loop Trail → Lost Creek Loop Trail → Page Mill Trail for a total of 2.7 miles before you reach Los Trancos Trail.
