Practical Insight Meditation by Mahasi Sayadaw has instructions for practicing mindfulness in our daily lives. It also includes brief instructions for the Four Protective Meditations that are prepatory exercises for getting the mind ready for mindfulness training. Several other books by Mahasi Sayadaw are available here.

In the bay area, California, there is the Tathagata Center, a Buddhist monastery where Mahasi Sayadaw used to teach.
