'Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha' is one of my favorite songs showcasing comfort and security in the presence of one's beloved. I love the opening line: आप की नज़रों ने समझा, प्यार के काबिल मुझे, दिल की ऐ धड़कन ठहर जा, मिल गई मंज़िल मुझे. Mala Sinha is expressing gratitude to Dharmendra that he found her worthy of his love. She wishes that time come to a standstill. She has found her destination and wishes to dwell in this moment forever.

A song with diametrically opposite sentiments is Pyar Par Bas To Nahi Hai Lekin (1958, Sahir Ludhianvi) — lyrics in Hindi. Its theme is lack of trust, uncertainty and insecurity. The poet is uncertain of his beloved. He is doubtful if she will be there in his time of need. He cannot trust her. Contrasting the lyrics of this song with those of 'Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha' helps me appreciate how much 'sukha' (peace and joy) lies in trust, certainty and security.

The third stanza is awesome:

आप की मंज़िल हूँ मैं मेरी मंज़िल आप हैं
क्यूँ मैं तूफ़ान से डरूँ मेरा साहिल आप हैं
कोई तूफ़ानों से कह दे, मिल गया साहिल मुझे

Meaning: "My destination is you. Your destination is me. We are made for each other. Now that I have found my anchor in the form of my beloved, I have no fear of storms (the vicissitudes of life). Let the storms be informed that I feel secure. My pillar of strength, my beloved, is with me."

Many lines of this composition can be interpreted by wearing the hat of a Sufi poet. In Sufi poetry, the word beloved also refers to the Almighty. See Love in Sufi Poetry by Matthew Kelley, Fountain Magazine, Issue 87, May - June 2012.

The song reminds me of other songs on togetherness:

  1. Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (1976, Balika Badhu)
  2. Mere Jeevan Mein Kiran Ban Ke (1958, Talaq)
  3. Yu Hi Kat Jayega Safar (1993, Ham Hain Rahi Pyar Ke)
  4. Rajnigandha Phool Tumhare (1974, Rajnigandha)
  5. Tum Gagan Ke Chandrama Ho (1964, Sati Savitri)
